Your Library Card
Getting a card, renewing materials, placing holds, etc.
Who can get a card
Anyone who lives within Jefferson City Limits is eligible for a free card. Children under 16 must have a parent's permission. Non-residents pay a fee if they do not live in a city in our service area, which includes all the libraries in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties.
How to Get Your Card
We require 2 items that show your address. One should be a picture id. Parents must show proof of residence in order for children under 16 to get a card and must sign as the responsiible party. If you live outside the city, you have several options:
-
A free card that allows checkout of one item at a time and one hold, which is accepted at all CCRLS libraries;
-
A Local Option card which is only usable at Jefferson Library for $25; or
-
A full service card accepted at all CCRLS member libraries for an annual charge of $60 per family.
-
Children who are non-residents of the city can get a C.A.R.E. card which allows use at all libraries on children's and young adult items.
Borrowing Limits
The free resident card, local option and non-resident fee card allows checkout of 50 items at a time, including 5 videos. The basic card is for one item at a time. Children may check out up to 25 items
Placing Holds
If you want a particular book that we do not have or that is checked out, you can request it from any library in our system, simply by asking us, or you can do it yourself from the library catalog. Simply logon on to your account and place the request. We can have it for you generally in a few days, via our courier delivery system at no charge.
Renewing Your Borrowed Items
If you need more time you can call the 24 hour renewal line on the back of your card, call us and ask for a renewal, or you can renew it yourself from the library catalog. One renewal is allowed unless someone else is waiting for the item.
Library Fines
Fines are charged on overdue items at the rate of 25 cents per day per item. Videos are $1 per day per item. Any materials not returned or badly damaged will be charged the replacement cost equal to the library's price.
Items returned in the book drop will be backdated to our last open day.
